To See But Not Believe

The mirror lies shattered all around you
and through the broken shard you see
(as you bathe in delusion.)
All the signs for us to set have found you,
but none have set you free.
(Still playing with illusion)

The first step is denial
how deep inside it knows.
This all is long after
showing what we want to see.
The first step is denial
and in our hearts it grows,
a mere mirage of how we want it all to be.
The first step is denial.

“I listen to reason, to reason” he said.
“I fall into reason.”
He falls down instead.

Drink from the cup you’re handed in your weakness.
Liquid filling up with passion, right?
(Instead it swallows you.)
A king born from the bottle in a clenched fist,
darkened dreams and shortened sight
(that voids and hollows you.)

The second is indulgence
and with each step it grows,
the power of the poison
Showing what we want to be.
The second is indulgence
and in our hearts it grows,
a mere mirage of how we want it all to be.
The second is indulgence.

Trade creation for compulsion.
Give compassion for repulsion.
Inspiration for obsession.
Observation for repression.
Why can’t you see it?
Why can't you hear it?
Why can't you see it?
To touch, to feel it,
To see but not believe…

The third step is regret.
