The Reunion |
We gather together here
as we do this time each year,
except this time a day too soon
to bury one of our own.
All the comforts of autumn
fall like leaves at our feet
and concealed with our bootprints
as we all make our retreat…
Into each other
For some comfort,
For some love,
For an answer from above,
So we know our friend is somewhere safe
For she's the one we're thinking of.
They say the sun shines brighter close to heaven.
That's only if we can make ourselves believe,
but here on earth we can hold our hands together
to share this moment with each other,
and share the love that we receive.
All the kids flew home this day
to see their friend be wheeled away.
They all looked on without a sound
and placed him in the winter's ground.
Two short decades cut short two months,
too many decades young to die,
and all of us he left behind,
a sobbing mess, would like to try…
To turn the hands,
To tip the hourglass
Once more.
To get an answer from God's door
To tell us that our brother's there,
For he's the one we're praying for.
What if this killer were a brother,
if this killer were a friend
who kneeled beside him one last time,
embraced and kissed him once,
before the casket shuts again?
