Beneath the Tide

I have seen you at the edge of your world
your mile high mountain top
for hours, just watching the clouds go by.
wondering why your fate transformed,
your gold has turned to dirt,
your life moved on but you were left behind.

without a face, without a name
forever running from your life’s mistakes
forever running from your fears,
they will catch up to you

there is a land across the water,
known by very few.
leave this life that haunts you here,
and try to start anew.
your future lies across the water
your new life lies beyond the waves
leave the scent of tragedy behind you.

I wish I could save you,
from drowning in this water
the tidal waves engulf you now,
how you wish that you could just
swim away this time.

but now the tide begins to rise around this foreign shoreline,
only one dream away from what awaits...
but as I see you lying here on the cold ocean floor,
below the waves,
beneath the tide...

as I sit and watch the calm crystal water,
on this beach that you will never see
I look to my right to watch the surrealistic sunrise,
where a small child appears from a dream.
I see his blue eyes and his half crescent smile,
sharing the silence we stand there alone.
the boy who had once viewed the world from a mile,
I smile and know that you have found your way home.
